"In all of us there is a hunger, marrow-deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we have come from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness and the most disquieting loneliness." -- Alex Haley

A Little History

Boulder County is the sixth most populous of the 64 Colorado Counties. The county seat is Boulder. The county was named for both Boulder Creek and Boulder City. Settlers arrived at Boulder Creek on October 17, 1858 and built 11 cabins at Red Rocks near the entrance of Boulder Canyon. Boulder City was organized less than a year later, on February 10, 1859. Boulder County was originally called Jackson County by the Jefferson Territorial officers who authorized nine counties in 1860. Jefferson Territory was superseded in 1861 by Colorado Territory and Jackson County was renamed Boulder County.
