I will be taking care of Grand County for the
COGenWeb Project which is a part of the USGenWeb Project. If you have
anything you wish to contribute to share with other researchers of Grand County,

me and I will be happy to post your contribution. We need
transcriptions of census data, cemeteries, biographies and any old stories or

In March and April of 1996 a
group of genealogists got together and organized the Kentucky Comprehensive
Genealogy Database Project. Their idea was to provide a single entry point for
all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In
addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an
individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the
index.
Volunteers were then found who were willing to coordinate the collection of
databases and generally oversee the contents of these county web pages.
In June of 1996, as the Kentucky project was nearing completion, the concept
came about to extend this idea to each of the remaining states. As with the
Kentucky project, volunteers were found to host the state pages and USGenWeb was
launched. The USGenWeb Project is now a national organization helping to keep
all the sites interconnected and with relative uniformity. Since its inception,
the project has and will maintain one central idea: an area for FREE collection
and dissemination of data.
When Grand County was created 2 February, 1874 it was carved out of Summit County and contained land to the western border of the state which is now in present day Moffat and Routt counties. In 1877 Routt County was created and Grand County shrunk down to its current western boundary. When valuable minerals were found in North Park, Grand County claimed the area as part of its county, a claim Larimer County also held. It took a decision by the Colorado Supreme Court in 1886 to declare North Park part of Larimer County. So its northern boundary was set.
