October 29, 1941 Greeley "Mrs. Effie Johnston, 68, of 1010 Eleventh avenue died at her home Wednesday morning at 4:30. She had been in poor health the past three yuars. She was the widow of the late Charles Johnston. Johnston family moved to Greeley four years ago from Sterling, after having lived, in and near there for 20 years.
Mrs. Johnston was born in Bureau county, Illinois, but moved from there to near Minden, Nebr., when she was a child. She was married Jan. 1908, to Charles Johnston, who died in 1939. The family came to Colorado in 1913, residing on a farm southeast of Sterling.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Alice Kaugh, Greeley; a brother, William Taylor of near Sterling, and a sister, Mrs. Cora Belel of Upland, Nebr. These nieces and nephews also survive: Mrs, Gladys Groce of Sterling, Robert Mills and Mrs. Ada O'Blenia, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Alta Mills of Omaha Nebr.,, Mrs. Eva Scharff, Mrs. Mabel Best, Mrs. Bertha Seward, Robert, Fay, and Val Velsel of near Minden, Nebr.
Funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from Macys drawing room, with interment at Linn Grove."

He is alert and active and cares for most of his needs himself. Hosts at the birthday party Kaugh's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hallett Kaugh, assisted by friends, Mr and Mrs. Ernie Shyrock. The nonagenarian was born Jan 8/1871 in Pennsylvania. He spent his boyhood in Missouri and came to Colorado when a young man working in mining camps around Denver and Boulder as a cook. Later he had his own restaurant in Boulder. In 1915 he settled at Cornish and acquired a 160 acre farm where he raised wheat and corn for eight years. He then left the farm and again lived in Boulder, Denver and later on the west coast before becoming a permanent resident of Greeley."
