Michael E. and Martha A. (Abrams) Dinkle, brother John W. Abrams

In 1870 Jones County, Iowa, Martha Abrams is 23, John W. 10, with John 51 and Nancy Abrams 50.  (one tree said John died November 1890 in Holyoke.  FindAGrave says that John Abrahams was born 1820 in Ohio with an unknown death date, married Nancy Abrahams, and Nancy is buried in Benton, Iowa # 11865230, with an inscription "Wife of John" ) 

In 1880 Ringgold County, Iowa, M.E. Dinkle is 31, Martha 32, with Francis 6, Maud 4, and Bertram six months.

Next family is John A.P. Dinkle.

In 1885 Ringgold County Michael E Dinkle is 35, Martha E. 38, with Francis L. 11, Maud E. 8, Claude B. 5, and John W. Abrams 26.  John was born in Ohio.

March 1889 "Paoli Pickings" from the Holyoke newspaper " Miss Frances Dinkle has quit school and gone to her home near Haxtun." 

Frances would have been 15 in 1889.

One tree said Frances married Oscar Watson, son of Robert 834-1908 and Sarah Ann Bryans 1840-1906. It said Martha was born Oct 1, 1846 in Delaware County Ohio.

Michael cash-claimed a quarter in 1, 8N 48W in 1891.  

 Michael E. Dinkle born June 1849 in Virginia, married about 1872 to Martha A. Oct 1846 Ohio.  They had Frances L. March 1874 in Missouri, and Claude B. December 1879 in Iowa, and in 1900 they're farming in Ringgold County, Iowa.

Michael is living with son Claude, who runs a grocery store, in 1920 Ringgold County.  Claude's married to Addie and they have two kids.


Michael E. Dinkel - June 8, 1849 -Oct 14, 1924 - and Martha A. Dinkel -Oct 14, 1846 - Nov 11, 1911 are on  stones in Marshalltown, Ringgold County.

J.A.P. Dinkel, his brother, is also buried there, and his obituary said that he and Michael came to Ringgold County together, two of thirteen children.


Maud (Dinkel) Haviland -Nov 5, 1876-Sep 28, 1946 and D. Haviland 1871-1917 are buried in Benton Cemetery, Ringgold County.  # 11782513


In 1910 Montrose County, Colorado John W. Abrams, 50, born in Ohio, and Claud B. Dinkel, nephew 30, born in Iowa , are farming.

Claude "Burtrude" Dinkel registered in Ringgold County, born Dec 31, 1879, a groceryman, with Adda Belle Dinkel nearest relative.

Leona Alma Watson was born Oct 25, 1904 to O.A. Watson and Frances Dinkel.

In 1910 Ringgold County Michael and Martha are alone and the census said he was born in Pennsylvania.

Francis and Oscar A. Watson are in Ringgold County in 1910, married eight years, with Maria 7, Leona 5, and Gail 2, all three daughters born in Iowa.  They're still farming there in 1920.

Lorene O. Shaw, born about 1904, married Vernice W. Shaw, and they're in Ringgold County in 1925, with Homer L. three months.

Lorene Olive SHAW, 85, of Corning, Iowa,  died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 1989, at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Redding. The Rev. Sam FRY will officiate with burial in the Redding Cemetery.

 Mrs. SHAW was born April 24, 1903, in Redding to Oscar and Frances (DINKEL) WATSON. She married Vernice W. SHAW in June 1924. She was a housewife, and a member of the Redding United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Survivors include two sons, Homer (wife Eloise) of Redding and Darrell SHAW of Mount Ayr; a sister, Leone (Mrs. Kenneth) HULLMAN of Coin; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974 and her parents.

In 1930 Ringgold County Oscar and Francis only have Leone, 24 teaching in a public school.  In 1940 Oscar is widowed, still farming, and Leona is still teaching.


John W. Abrams cash-claimed a quarter in 1, 7N 46W in 1891 - that's about a dozen miles away from Michael's claim.

The 1891 Phillips County tax rolls have J.W. Abrams and John Abrams, both section 1, 7-46 - wonder if both father and son had land there.

In 1910 Montrose County, Colorado John W. Abrams, 50, born in Ohio, and Claud B. Dinkel, nephew 30, born in Iowa , are farming.

John W. is in Montrose County in 1930 and 1940, single, farming.
