Christian Keiss, John Keiss, Fleming

Christian cash-claimed a quarter in 14, 8N 49W in 1889.
John cash-claimed one in section 15 in 1890.
John had a record of a homestead in 8N 49W, but it wasn't completed.
When Fleming School District Number 69 was organized July 15, 1889, voting was held in the office of the Atlas Lumber Company, with voters including John Keiss.


Maggie Rau married John Keiss September 12, 1895 in Cook County, Illinois.

John Keiss was naturalized April 20, 1896 in Oak Park, Cook County circuit court, Illinois.

In 1910 Cook County, Illinois, John Keiss is a laborer, 51, married 14 years. Magaetta 46, both born in Germany. Emma is 12 and John 7, both born in Illinois.

John, born died November 12, 1914, in Forest Park, Cook County, father Sebastien Keiss.
The St. Paul's Lutheran church records has him dying of stomach cancer, to be buried in Forest Home.
In 1920 Cook County, Illinois, Margaret Keiss is 55, widowed, born in Germany, with Emma 22 an operator, and John 17 an assembler, both born in Illinois.

March 10, 1928 "Mrs. John Keiss, 7'i. W Monroe street, is seriously ill at her home and is in care of a trained nurse."

Margeretha Keiss, born Dec 26, 1862 in Hessen, Dormstadt, Germany, died March 8, 1928 to be buried in Forst Park, Cook County. Her father was VOlbrecht Rau, mother Margaretha Hebnere.

In 1930 Cook County, John Keiss is single, 27, living with sister Emma Sheidemantel 33 and her husband Wm. 36.

John is still with Emma's family in 1940, still a laborer.

Emma is buried in Forest Home Cemetery 1896-1954 # 162503927.


In 1900 Grand Island Nebraska, Chris Keiss born Sept 1865 in Germany, is a carpenter, single, imigating in 1883.
He's boarding with the Healts family from Kentucky.

In 1910 Denver, Christian is a carpenter, married six years to Florence, with Edwin 4 Colorado, Laurence 3 Nebraska, and daughter four months born in Colorado.

In January 1918, Florence A. Keiss was the executor of the estate of Christian Keiss in Denver.
She was the widow, with children Edwin, Lawrence R. and Florence J., all living at 4937 Stuart in Denver. Christian died November 16, 1917.

Christian 1865-1917 is buried in Grand Island, Nebraska # 103803805, with Florence McAllister Keiss 1879-1940.

Edwin 1905-2001 is buried in Denver, with Ruby 1910-2000.
Lawrence Robert Keiss 1907-1970 is buried in Lander, Wyoming, per # 112848156.

Florence J. Robison 1909-1999 is buried in Harlan County, Nebraska # 88673003, with Eugene W. Robison 1920-1995.
