About Otero County GenWeb

Hello, and welcome to the Otero County GenWeb page. I am the new County Coordinator for Otero Company, as of May 15, 2009. As you may know, Otero County was formed from Bent County in 1889. If you cannot find your ancestors in Bent County after 1889, look for them in Otero County.

In 1996 the USGenWeb Project was begun, with web sites for each county in the United States. Otero County was begun at that time. Check out more of the history on the "Timeline" link.

While I am not the orginal coordinator for Otero County, I hope to add more information to make this web site even more informational for Otero County researchers.
