Photo History

This is a photo of my parents, J. D. HUTCHISON from Michigan who met my mother Lola Mae SMITH while he had a layover on the train on his way to a military base in Clovis, NM. He was wandering around town and happened into the elevator my mother operated a Neusteter's. He refused to get out until she would agree to go out with him that night. He rode up and down all day. She finally consented; they were married 6 weeks later. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this past April. This photo was probably taken in 1943. My uncle Leo SMITH (a Denver attorney) is wearing the striped shirt. The non-family historical significance of this photo is the expanse of nothingness behind the farm to the mountains. You can see just a faint outline of the mountains behind the car. Those wide open spaces are now Littleton and Lakewood. Columbine HS is now somewhere out there.
