Hello, my name is Ann Allen Geoghegan. I'm your San Juan County Coordinator.  With your help we can continue to add more information that is of interest to you and to others with ancestors in San Juan County.

San Juan County was formed in 1876 and is located in the South Western part of Colorado.
The territory in which it was organized was La Plata County.
Silverton is the only incorporated town in San Juan County.

While San Juan looks like a small county, there is a lot of history and fascinating stories that occurred in San Juan County.  There are several old mines and even a few ghost towns!  I'll bet that if you had ancestors in Colorado during the mining heyday, you might find that they spent some time in this area.

The year round population is around 550.

The 1910 and 1920 San Juan County Census images are now on line at the USGenWeb Archives.

Census Images: 1880  1900  1910  1920

Our thanks to Lorie Christian and S-K Publications for donating
these to the USGenWeb Archives Project
