I am trying to confirm a birthplace, birthname and date. The 'family lore' says Caroline Belle PRATT , born 27 June 1909, Cimarron, NM. BUT the 1910 and 1920 census [in Trinidad, CO] give Colorado as birthstate.
There was possibly another name given for recording which was later changed to Caroline Belle 'which suited better' [hearsay has the first one starting with a J or G]. Her parents were Herbert Lyman 'Bert' and Anna Laura [or Laura Anna] Sheets Doil PRATT.
Will appreciate any help with this sticky one!

HESSELDAHL, Louis M. veteran of the Spanish-American War, Private, Co. C, 1st. Reg Colo Inf. This was the Colorado Volunteers, known as the Rough Riders.

 I am interested in how to obtain any existing military records, plus any information out the Colorado Volunteers. Louis was my grand- father's brother. He came from Minnesota and returned there after the war, but the family knows nothing about his military service.

Looking for information about Lloyd Dell SILVIUS born 1902 in Colorado. His father was Daniel S. SILVIUS , born in PA, married Marcia KING in Colorado. They also had an eldest daughter Mabel and another son, Frank King SILVIUS , born in 1892 in Colorado.
I have Marriage record and Death Certificate,but only Colorado is mentioned as the place of birth on all these children.

Robert NEWTON , Charley NEWTON , Thomas Tate TOBIN , Eloy MADRIL .. These families were in Alamosa, Robert Newton was born in Fort Garland, his grandson said he was a full blooded Cherokee. Robert's wife was Annie Jewell Mary Newton Married Eloy Madril , they lived in Alamosa. They are the grandparents of Paula Nellson Madril Lindsay , Paula's sons live in Utah, her daughter Valerie Jean Lindsay will graduate from U. of KY spring of 1998. Please contact me. I have much information from Church records Charles Newton was born in 1808, City of New York, he was a clerk in Fort Garland, friend of Kit Carson, related to him by marriage. Charles Newton married Maria Reyes Cortes born 1831 in Taos NM. Their son Carlos was the father of Robert who was born in Fort Garland. Carlos married Emilia Tobin , born 1836 Taos, NMThomas Tate Tobin was born in St. Louis, MO, his father came from Ireland

Looking for Earnest Clermont SLEETH . He was born in Snyler?, Colorado 11 July 1918 to Earnest C. SLEETH and Nancy M. RIGGS . He married Pauline J. ECK in Salt Lake City in 1941. According to the SS# death index he received his SS# in Colorado prior to 1951. Earnest died in San Jose, California in 1987. He may have married a second time. If anyone has information on the SLEETH family or could tell me where Snyler, Colorado is, I would very much appreciate it.

Mahala DIXON PRIGMORE was the widow of Joseph PRIGMORE who died in Texas. Mahala DIXON was born about 1810 in Ohio (county not known). She md 17 May 1827 in Lafayette Co., Mo to Joseph PRIGMORE . Mahala died Jan 1886 in Colorado. Place not known. Is there a way to find where she died?

I am looking for my great,great grandmother Kizzie(Kazaiah) BROCKMAN . She came from somewhere in Jackson County, Ky. I believe that she moved to Colorado in the year 1913 ( the year of her husband's death) or sometime after. She was born April,1852. She had a daughter by the name of Martha Kerby who resided in Bennett and Strasburg, Colorado. I am told that she is buried in Colorado, I am looking for the location and the date of her death. I am also interested in locating any other BROCKMANS that may have been related to her. I know of a Floyd (or Lloyd) BROCKMAN , Richard BROCKMAN , and a Leslie BROCKMAN . Any help or information will be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for information on the whereabouts of my grandfather's brother, Justus Austin GILLETTE . He was born in Huntington, WV, on September 3, 1879, son of Spencer Alanson and Fannie Elizabeth ( Reynolds ) Gillette . In 1906, he left the area and was not heard from again.
He left a wife, Afta ( Suiter ) Gillette , and two sons, Harry Urban Gillette and William Justus Gillette . His descendants have reason to believe Justus may have gone to Colorado sometime in or after 1906. It is difficult not to know what happened to one of your family members. If you can help us to locate Justus and help provide some closure for us, please e-mail me.

Looking for John Gottlieb KRAMER who went to CO in July 1888 from Mobile, AL. May have been in Denver at first but mailed a letter from Emma CO in 1897 when his wife divorced him. He had been a Lutheran school teacher. Believe he lived into the 1930's. Possibly he remarried and had another family. He was b. in NY in 1857. This was the person that got me started on genealogy in 1969, and I've never found him. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I am searching for the descendants of OSCAR HACKNEY (or Oliver), son of William Land Hackney of North Carolina & Tennessee. Oscar went to Colorado in the 1800's well before the turn of the century. His brothers, (James and Napoleon), his sisters (Margaret, Elizabeth, and Florence) along with their widowed mother, Mary (or Cary) Adaline Cardin , all moved to Fannin County, Georgia. My grandfather, Goldman Napoleon Hackney , was Oscar's brother. We also have a reference to Oscar Hackney as William Oscar Hackney . I am looking for descendants with surname SNAWDER or SNOWDER . With emphasis to a Cyrus or Sirus Alfred SNOWDER and his mother Delilah SNOWDER . Arrived in Colorado sometime in 1905 or 1906. I am searching for information on a possible ancestor whose name was William W. Hays/Hayes . Information I currently have says he was born in 1840 in Franklin, Indiana. He moved to Kansas in 1871, with his wife who has been refered to as Juliet, Jewell, and Julia Smathers Cavanaugh . William and his wife, along with his father Lewis and his mother Mary, and his two sisters: Marion and Alice, started a village in Kansas that later became known as Haysville.
William is said to have left Kansas in 1881, and gone to Colorado to serve as a Postmaster. He is said to have been in Colorado from 1881 to 1885. And then returned to Kansas in 1886, where he remained until he died. I would appriciate any info, anyone might have on William and/or any members of his family, or any ideas where I might find some information.

Seeking info about John Lewis McDOWELL (b. 1828 LA) married Emiline LNU . Family legend has it that he was murdered in Colorado by a man who then took his identity and his property. The imposter was discovered and hanged (nothing is said about a trial). Does anyone have any info about this or suggestions for where I might start?

Here's the information.
My Uncle's name was Francis H. Mahon .
Born: Feb 18, 1921, Died Sept. 27th 1997.
He was (to the best of my knowledge) born in Denver, Colorado.
He graduated from the University of Colorado with a B. S. degree then entered Stanford.
He majored in economics and later taught at Stanford.
He then served in the Army as a Captain.
His brother told me that he served as assistant Secretary of State under both Truman and later, Kennedy. He was a minor diplomat to Greece following WWII. He taught at Columbia University, and he worked in New York City (I think for the state department), this took place in the 60's and 70's.
His father (my grandfather) was Thomas Joseph Mahon and my Grandmother was Delia Mahon . Both were born in Ireland and entered the U.S. sometime between 1900 and 1914. My mother was Mary Theresa Mahon (married name Phillips ) And MY maiden name was Phillips .
I want to thank you again, as this is very important to me and you are truly giving me a great gift by just trying to get more information for me. I would appreciate a "how to" list, of how to find service and government records as well as what he taught at Columbia and Stanford.

Martha Cross GILLESPIE (b.19 July 1809 in VA) and youngest son, Alexander M. Gillespie (b. c1847) left Lancaster, WI sometime after Nov. 12, 1872 when her husband (my g-g-g grandfather) John Bowen Gillespie died. They moved to the state of Colorado, county unknown.
Martha was born July 19, 1809 in VA and married John July 27, 1842 in VA. John had a large family by Rhoda Harman his first wife. John and Martha had three other children one of whom died in 1853.
I am attempting to compile records of all the descendants of John B. Gillespi e, and know nothing more about Martha or son Alexander. Any information or suggestions will be more than appreciated.

I am looking for evidence of birth of my paternal grandfather, Guy Penney , who was believed to have been born in Colorado in about 1895. He left there, and settled in Letcher County, KY around 1920, and lived there until at least the 1960's. He was a coal miner, and later owned a small store in Neon-Fleming, KY. His wife was Mary Crawford Penney , and they had a number of children - Rudell, Nina, Roy, Goldie and Rebecca Elizabth.

I'm looking for Ray S. MERRILL , born in Colorado, about 1884. I believe that Ray had a brother named Fred. By 1906, Ray had gone to Boise, Idaho and Spokane, Washington. In 1907, he was working in Alaska. In the 1920's the MERRILL family had moved to Los Angeles California, where Ray died in 1944.

I am searching for information on Patrick H. McCabe , his wife Mary Elizabeth ( McCOY ) McCabe , or any of their descendants. They both were born and married in IL. Under doctors orders to move Mary to a "healthier climate" they moved to Colorado, where Mary died in 1903 from consumption.

 I have the names eight children, but I believe they may have had 12 chiildren. The names that I have are: Mary Ann, Johanna Harriet, James, John Archibald, William Richard, Henry, and Patrick Everett.

All of the above children were born before 1903, probably in IL, a slight possibility one or two could have been born in Nebraska, as I have found a mention of them having lived in Hamilton County, Nebraska before moving to Colorado. I doubt they lived in Nebraska for a long time.
